Time: 3:15pm and 3:58pm

Location: Overlook Drive and Meadowlark Dr

Nature: Structure Fire and Chimney Fire

At 3:15 pm, Companies 3, 5, and 1 were dispatched to the above address for the shed on fire. Upon the arrival of the Shelton Police, they confirmed a working shed fire. The shed was approximately 40’x10’ with active fire within. Crews stretched a 1 3/4” attack hose to knock down the fire. Once the fire was extinguished, crews spend approximately 30 minutes checking for hotspots and extinguishing these smoldering areas. No injuries to the residents or fire personnel. Engine 35, Ladder 51, Squad 1, Utility 31, and a Mutual Aid Engine from Monroe Fire Department operated under the command of Assistant Chief Wheeler. Echo Hose EMS stood by in the event of injury.

While Members were operating at this fire, Companies 1, 3, 4, and 5 were dispatched to an address on Meadowlark Drive for flames coming from the chimney. As crews arrived, no fire was visible however an abnormal amount of smoke was visible. As crews entered the occupied home, a moderate smoke condition was found along with an active fire in the fireplace. Crews extinguished the fire and removed the material from the firebox. Additional members proceeded to the roof where they determined the chimney was clogged. Crews used specialized tools to dislodge the excessive creosote to make the invert safe. Once the smoke was ventilated and metered for CO, the property was turned over to the homeowner as the home is habitable. No injuries occurred during operations. Engines 52, 42, Ladder 51, Rescue 45, and Utility 31 operated under the Command of Assistant Chief Nick Verdicchio. The Derby Fire Department provided station coverage at the Echo Hose H&L Co.1 in the event any additional emergencies arose.
